A new digital platform and dynamic brand identity for Aotearoa’s premier Pacific news provider, championing Pacific culture and storytelling.
Pacific Media Network (PMN) has been a cornerstone of Pacific culture in Aotearoa for over 30 years, connecting communities through its flagship stations, 531pi and NiuFM.
However, with a growing Pacific population in New Zealand and a geographically dispersed diaspora across Australia and the USA, PMN faced the challenge of connecting with the next generation.
Aiming to unify its radio stations, news, social content, and new podcast platform, PMN needed a digital solution that honoured its legacy while embracing the future.
PMN wanted to launch loud and proud, celebrating Pacific voices, culture, language, and creativity. The solution was a full transformation to their brand and digital ecosystem.
Through an extensive brand design journey, the PMN identity was reimagined with a new logo, guidelines, colours, and a flexible graphic system tailored to the 10 Pacific nations it represents. The new brand platform, ‘PMN IS US’, anchored a national out-of-home campaign, building awareness with new audiences and showing PMN is here to stay.
The refreshed brand came to life through a custom website build. A bespoke Sanity CMS met editorial needs, enabling seamless workflows from newsroom to publication. With live audio, multimedia storytelling, video and podcast support, and new monetisation tools like digital display and sponsored content, the platform future-proofs PMN for a digital-first era.
